Taking inspiration from the brand’s original design process on textile and daily objects, the design turns a shopping mall retail into a “Maker’s Grocery Store” which contains four spaces of different functions, the “front yard”, the “maker’s studio”, the “bedroom” and the “wardrobe”. The store imagines a space where a maker lives and sells the beloved products.
Upon arriving at the store, customers enter a “front yard” where the floor and the wall are covered with matt white tiles. 12 display panels grow out of the while-tiled wall. Towels and other display boxes are hung from the front wall, giving a sense of a conventional grocery store that can be found on the street. Pink marble, refractory brick and green terrazzo are stacked to form three free-standing objects serving different functions: the wash basin, the register counter, and the bench. Altogether, the front yard space breaks the conventional window display rule of a typical store front in an indoor shopping mall and transforms it into a more open and public space like the shops on the streets.
Passing through the front yard, customer will find the main grocery space that is wrapped with the floor to ceiling shelves painted in yellow color. Customized furniture with color-stained wood veneer scattered in the space echoing the space also as a maker’s studio where the maker experiments with material and form. On the shelves display and archive different collections: the linen, pillow, table ware, office works etc. The shelves integrate display functions with storage by utilizing different details on the horizontal panels. Metal hardware can be installed or removed from the panels for different means of display. Campaign images can also be flexible elements depending on the stocking status in the shop.
At the most inside of the shop are the “bedroom” and the “wardrobe” space. Contrasting to the yellow central studio space, these two rooms are decorated in a white and plain materials. Display racks are hung from the wall for the linen product, which is flexible to the change of bedroom setting. Wardrobe space displays the pajama collection with a changing room behind the green curtain.
